Printing, finishing and complete-set assembly.

A complete deck needs controlled files, an agreed physical reference and a defined packing list. These are the checkpoints behind the printing and finishing route.

Sheet-fed offset printing press handling paper for custom playing card production
01 Offset printing

Consistent sheets for large deck runs

Artwork and sheet preparation are planned around card faces, back groups and the approved print specification for each deck.

Press calibration and color checking
02 Color control

Proofing before production

Artwork is reviewed around trim, bleed, safe area and color performance before moving into the main production run.

Printing ink quality control
03 Ink & color QC

Batch-to-batch color control.

Ink, color and finished sheets are checked before the next production step, helping bulk deck orders stay consistent.

Process reference imagery: examples of printing, inspection and material choices, not records of a specific order. The production route and inspection scope are agreed for each project.

Production backbone

Match the process to the finished product.

The production route is chosen around the stock, card count, surface finish and complete packaging. Additional effects and unusual structures need a project-specific feasibility and proofing review.

Before production approval

What should the production reference contain?

A card project needs more than a finished front design. Confirm these records together so the artwork, quantity and assembly instructions describe the same product.

Project records used for review

Artwork versionApproved files, card IDs, trim, bleed and effect layersSuperseded artwork or misplaced print effects
Card mapEach front, its back, copies per set and packing groupMissing cards, wrong answers or incorrect back pairing

Different projects need different checks. Randomized packing, serialized cards, multiple language editions and additional game components require their own review; these are not automatically included in a standard deck quotation.

Choose materials around the way the cards are used.

Compare white-core, blue-core and black-core paper, or PVC where appropriate. Card count, handling, combined finishes and packaging are reviewed together to define the production specification.

Core material choices

Compare opacity, stiffness and handling on the actual stock. Paper color or core name alone does not define the complete material specification.

Surface and effect combinations

Base coatings, foil, spot effects and edge treatments are specified separately. The artwork, stock and process combination determine the proof route and cost.

Illustrative planning record

Count copies, not just designs.

A fictional 92-card game shows how a card map defines one complete set.

52 unique designs ≠ 92 physical cards.

Also record each card ID, matching back, effect layer and packing group. A total count alone will not detect the wrong card replacing a missing one.
