How Much Does It Cost to Print a Deck of Cards?

Updated 18 September 2026. Scope: bulk playing card and card game quotations.

The cost to print a deck of cards is determined by the complete specification, not quantity alone. Max Deck Print quotes bulk production from 1,000 complete sets in USD after reviewing the card count, size, material, artwork, effects and packaging. Samples and delivery are confirmed separately. For a useful price comparison, specify a complete deck or game set rather than asking for a price per loose card.

How do you calculate the total cost per deck?

Compare the complete order budget, not only the factory unit price. Start with the price for the finished cards and specified packaging, then identify any separately quoted setup, proofing, delivery and destination charges. Do not add a charge twice if it is already included.

For budgeting: total agreed project costs divided by the number of complete sellable decks gives the budget per deck. A factory product price excludes anything the quotation does not expressly include. Use the same delivery basis when comparing suppliers.

What belongs in a card-printing quotation?

Ask for the same specification from each supplier. A 54-card promotional deck, an 80-card game and a 78-card tarot deck with a guidebook are not equivalent products, even when the order quantity is the same. A price comparison is useful only when the contents and commercial basis match.

Why does quantity change the unit price?

Prepress, printing setup, cutting preparation and production checks involve work that is not proportional to each additional deck. A larger run can spread that setup over more sets. Material, printing, finishing and packing still contribute to each unit, so unit cost does not keep falling at the same rate.

Request alternatives with identical artwork and specifications. Record the cost of the complete order as well as the unit price. More inventory is not a saving if storage, financing or unsold stock outweighs the lower price per deck.

How should you compare a quantity quotation?

Request these figures for each quantity option
QuantityKeep unchangedAsk the supplier to return
1,000 setsApproved card and packaging specificationUnit price, product total and separate cost lines
3,000 setsThe same stock, effects, card count and boxComparable production price and packed volume
5,000 setsThe same print files and assembly requirementsTotal commitment, delivery basis and timing

These quantities are comparison examples, not advertised price tiers or a commitment to a particular discount. Tooling, special packing or multiple artwork versions may affect how a run is priced.

What drives card game production costs?

A card game is priced as a complete set: all physical cards, repeated copies, printed rules, packaging and assembly. For example, 1,000 sets containing 92 cards require 92,000 finished cards. That count describes the product quantity, not a price estimate; production allowance and setup are separate costing considerations.

Unique artwork count and physical card count are different. A game with 30 unique designs can contain 92 cards when some designs repeat. Give each card an ID, copy count and matching back so the quotation covers the correct contents. See the custom card game printing specifications for complete-set planning.

Unique artwork, rules and collation

Supply the unique design count, copies of each design and the back assigned to every card. Include rules, reference cards and packaging inserts. A repeated-card game, a fixed collectible set and a standard-face playing deck have different checking and collation requirements. A flat customization surcharge cannot describe every project.

How do you avoid an incomplete price comparison?

Keep cards, packaging, effects, samples and shipping visible as separate lines where applicable. Ask whether a plus sign means a charge per set, per card, per color or one-time setup. Confirm the currency, quote validity and the exact delivery basis with the supplier.

Factory product pricing is not automatically a delivered total. Confirm freight, customs arrangements and destination charges separately. Read the shipping policy and compare sample costs with bulk costs before approving a PI.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to print 1,000 decks of cards?

There is no single price for 1,000 custom decks. Card count, size, stock, printing, additional effects, collation and packaging must be specified first. Max Deck Print provides a project-specific USD quotation after reviewing the brief. Specify whether the price should include a printed box, rules, sampling and delivery.

Is a printed box included in the price?

Only if the quotation lists it. Shrink wrap, a printed tuck box and a rigid presentation box are different specifications. Check the box structure, print coverage, finish and packing quantity on the quote.

Can I compare several quantities?

Yes. Request the same specification at two or three quantities, such as 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 complete sets. Ask for product totals and separately listed setup, proofing and delivery costs.

Does submitting the quote form create an order?

No. The form starts a manual review. The final specification, PI and offline payment instructions are agreed before an order proceeds.
